Messaging has been a fan favorite for online sports managers and team owners alike. Having the ability to send a last minute blast to the team alerting of a schedule change or cancellation has proven vital and saved many soccer moms a wasted trip to the local practice field!
Messaging your team is super easy with TeamSnap using our Alert feature. Rather than choosing what kind of Alert you want to send out to the team (and trying to figure out who gets what kind of Alert), you can simply send out one message to your entire team. Depending on their preferences, each team member will receive your message in the format they choose: a push notification, a SMS/text message, an email, or a combination of the formats.
When you send the Alert, TeamSnap delivers the message to each enabled user according to these protocols:
1. If Push Notifications are enabled, user receives a Push Notifications and an Email.
2. If Push Notifications are disabled but SMS/Text are enabled, user receives SMS/Text only.
3. If Push Notifications are disabled and SMS/Text are disabled, user receives Email only.
To enable Push Notifications on your app, on the app go to your Preferences tab and turn ON the Alerts and Schedule Updates slider. This will enable Push Notifications for your phone.
Enabling SMS/Text Messages:
If prefer to receive SMS/Text Messages over Push Notifications, you need to enable text messages for your mobile number on Roster, and to turn off all Push Notifications (including those for game updates, etc).
To enable your mobile number for SMS/texts, follow these steps:
- Click to Edit your profile on the Roster tab.
- Enter a mobile number
- Check the Allow team to send me text messages at this number box
- Select a Carrier from the Mobile Phone Provider drop-down box
- Save the setting
Now, you need to turn off Push Notifications. On your app, go to Preferences> Alerts and Schedule Updates> OFF. Please see the Android and iOS screenshots below:
After these settings have been adjusted, the user will receive SMS/Text messages when Alerts are sent for the team.
Please note: Our SMS/Text functionality is currently a true one-way SMS system. TeamSnap texts cannot accept direct replies. The number of the ‘sender’ is included at the end of the text. Please use this number to generate a direct text for replies.
